Chanakya is also known as Kautilya or Vishnugupta. He penned the Arthashastra, an ancient Indian treatise on statecraft, economic policy and military strategies. This book is considered one of the greatest works of ancient Indian scientific thought.chanakya stressed a limit on the power of rulers, since he felt that destruction of the state was a consequence of an oversized ruler. He preached of a philosophy called Brahmanism, which was governed by a sense of morality and ethical behavior.
In terms of its specific beliefs, Brahmanism or Hinduism (as it is also known) is a polytheistic religion that venerates many gods, while at the same time professing a belief in an Absolute Being (Brahman) that is the Final Cause of all things. Hindus believe that Dharma (right action and moral behavior) is the basis of life, and strive to purify their souls by following the paths of truth, right conduct, peace, love, and non-injury to other living beings. Moral laws in Hinduism are contained in the Vedas and other sacred texts, as well as in the laws of Manu and other ancient thinkers.
