Prithviraj Chauhan was one of the greatest rulers of medieval India. He was a brave and courageous ruler who is remembered for his heroic deeds in the battlefield. He belonged to the Hindu Rajput dynasty called Chauhans. He was born in 1178 AD in Ajaymeru (modern Ajmer). He was born in a very influential family as his grandfather Anangpal had already established himself as the ruler of Delhi
Prithiviraj was a brave warrior who defeated many of his opponents in the battlefield and made a name for himself. He gained fame as the “king of kings” for his conquests. He extended the boundaries of his kingdom by occupying the kingdoms of Malwa, Gujarat, Haryana, and Rajputana. He was also successful in preventing the attack from Mohammad Ghori of Afghanistan, who later invaded India in 119
Prithviraj was also a great patron of art and culture . He built grand forts and palaces, patronized great poets and musicians, and also made Someshwar Mahadev temple in Ajmer a center of learning. He also established a library, with one of the most extensive collections of manuscripts. He placed special emphasis on the promotion of Sanskrit learning and patronized the grammarian Hemadri, author of Chaturvargachintamani and Varadamala. He also erected several monoliths commemorating his victories.
