Vikramaditya, also known as Vikrama, was an ancient Indian king and hero who lived during the 1st century AD. Popularly known as the 'Sun of India', he is remembered as a great ruler, warrior and military leader and is associated with the creation of an immensely glorious kingdom of Ujjain, which was considered the center of power for the entire Indian subcontinent in his time.


Vikramaditya's life was full of adventure and heroism. He is believed to have made his kingdom from scratch, relying solely on his own strength and courage. He is said to have won several battles against enemies, who tried to take away his kingdom. The armies of neighboring kings and empires used to suffer heavy defeats in the hands of Vikramaditya's soldiers. He was also known for his policies of justice, idea of equality and good governance, which earned him the admiration of his people.


In terms of religious beliefs, Vikramaditya practiced and promoted a form of Vedic Hinduism, as well as cultural and spiritual diversity and sanctity of life. He also emphasized tolerance and religious accommodation over persecution or forced conversion. He was known for his support of religious minorities and women’s rights and against caste discrimination.

Vikramaditya was also known for initiating massive public works and infrastructure projects that improved irrigation and water systems, public transport, roadways and temples. He was known to be a great patron of the arts, architecture, sculpture and literature, commissioning hundreds of works. He also supported scholars and artists, generous with his grant and patronage for the promotion of the Hindu sciences, Buddhist thought and Jain doctrine. He was known for his fairness and promotion of the highest ethical values, both in governing the state and in personal life.
